Daniel R. Vertrees
Educator, musician, administrator, outdoorsman, blacksmith, archer, writer; an convoluted and eclectic life spanning the nation. From a one-room schoolhouse in Oregon to Syracuse University I have experienced the gamut of education experience. From band director in a small town Oregon, to positions in upstate New York, to dean at an Historical Black College in Alabama, I experienced a diverse and informative career.
Over the years I have written articles, book chapters, programs, and a small book of essays. Now, when the demands of career are passed, I write historic fiction. Historic fiction is a balancing act between historic accuracy and engaging story. I strive to include as much historic information and setting as possible without turning the story into a history text book. I also try to infuse the stories with enough action, drama, emotion, and interest as possible without turning the characters into caricatures.
I hope you find these stories entertaining and engaging.
